Holiday gite in the Pyrenees mountains - Prats de Mollo on the border with Spain
Holiday in a fully renovated gite within the fortified walls of a traffic free medieval town. The south facing rooftop terrace has panoramic views over the pyrenees mountains, town and surrounding countryside. Prats de Mollo offers a Mediterranean climate whilst nestling in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains.
The town is steeped in history and offers a tranquil base from which to explore the surrounding French and Spanish countryside, culture and cuisine.

Walking, Cycling, Tennis, Mountain climbing, Pony trekking all local. The town has a life guarded swimming pool with water slide (summer months) within 5 min's walk from the house.
Golf 35mins, Mediterranean beaches 1 hr.
Local walks
The Tourist Information office in the town sells a book of 24 local Pyrenees walks, which they place in four category's; easy through to very difficult. The narrative is in French but fairly easy to understand (I intend to translate them and leave them in the house). The routes are all signed and most are shown on the local OS map which can be bought locally.
Typical walks included in the publication:
Simple Walk - 2 kilometers, 1 hr, no climbing, a forest and river walk (starts from the house)
Medium Walk - 8 kilometers, 2.5 hrs, climb 1000ft, a walk over a mountain pass (starts from the house)
Medium Walk - 10 kilometers, 4 hrs, climb 1900ft, a walk through the forest to two mountain passes (starts from the house)
Harder Walk - 14 kilometers, 5hrs, climb 2500ft, a walk through forest and high pasture to the Tour du Mir a mediaeval watchtower overlooking the valley with tremendous views - see pictures (starts from the house)
Difficult walk - 18 kilometers, 8hrs, climb 3500ft. This walk takes you to the top of the Costabonne mountain at a height of over 8000ft. It starts from a mountain Chalet 15km east of the house
